Violet Elvira Buchanan

Violet E. Buchanan, age 89, of Austin, MN, died Thursday, April 19, 2012 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, MN

Violet was born on October 5, 1922 in Lansing, MN to Robert and Ethel (Voigt) Smith. On May 21, 1939, she was married to Duane Buchanan in Northwood, IA. After raising their children, Violet cooked at the Log Cabin and later at the Elks club in Austin. In her spare time, Violet enjoyed playing cards, camping and spending time with her family. Violet was a member of the Royal Neighbors and Westminster Presbyterian Church

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Duane, daughter Sally Magnuson, great granddaughter Rhianna Schilling, and three sisters

Violet is survived by her son: Duane (Joan) Buchanan, Livermore, CO; daughter: Rosemary (David) Lestrud, Loveland, CO; son: Robert Buchanan, Austin, MN; daughter: Penny (Wayne) Elsner, Sheboygan, WI; son-in-law: Burton Magnuson; nine grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, sisters: Fern Stockdale, Mary Lake, Ardith Moore; brother: Melvin “Buzz” Smith; Nieces and Nephews.

Honorary Bearers will be Jon Buchanan, Dan Buchanan, Todd Buchanan, Cassie Buchanan, Cody Buchanan, Kelly Magnuson Bruns, Melissa Magnuson, Jodi Schilling, Lynette Fix, Karlyn Buchanan, Brooks Buchanan, Zach Buchanan, Colin Buchanan, Raquel Buchanan, Nash Buchanan, Tyler Fix, Noah Magnuson Bruns, Emma Magnuson Stahly, Elise Magnuson Stahly, Eva Magnuson Stahly and Chelsea Schilling.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, April 23, 2012 at Westminster Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Michael Olmsted officiating. Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery in Oakland. Visitation will be held at the church for one hour before the service on Monday. Clasen-Jordan Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
